I am incredibly honoured and privileged to be one of 39 Central Coast Artists to have my artwork and story featured in a fabulous new book that has been five years in the making by fellow artist Glenn Hambleton.

The book is titled; Artists of the Central Coast - In their own words.

It was great to chat with Glenn back in December of 2019 about my practice - where it all began and how living on the Central Coast has influenced my work.

To celebrate there will be a book launch and exhibition of many of the artists included in the book at The Entrance Gallery on Saturday 14th May @12pm. More details below

This beautiful high quality coffee table book will be available for sale at the launch or by contacting Glenn.

It was a full house at the opening and it was a surprise to be told that my work had been short listed by the judge. Artist Brian Stratton.

I was struggling to work out how I could possibly deliver my entry to the Gallery as it did not fit in my car. My lovely neighbours tried to help me out but even their much larger car didn’t cut it.
After much thought and pacing back and forth trying to find a solution, suddenly it hit me, other than hiring a courier a maxi taxi would be a more affordable option to transport my large Art Prize entry.
With only two hours to spare before delivery cut off the arrangements were made and the work arrived safely. It was all very last minute but, thankfully I got there in the end.
So I’m thinking, my next car, will be a van.

]]><![CDATA[The Inspiration Behind Lightning and Land]]>Wed, 03 Jul 2019 04:54:14 GMThttp://www.donnalouisefletcher.com/news/the-inspiration-behind-lightning-and-landWhilst researching my family history I discovered that in 1891 my Paternal Great, Great Grandfather was struck by lightning and killed whilst mining near Peak Hill, NSW, Australia, as he strived to give his family a better life.
He was 34 years old when he died and he left a wife and 4 small children under 6 years old behind.
Since learning of his plight I have incorporated gold paint into the layers of many of my works as a sign of remembrance.

Lightning and Land - This large piece is one of the last pieces I’ve been able to create in this style and scale since an injury has hampered the way in which I am able to work.⁣ It also forms part of a series of works.
This work is an emotive response to the Australian Landscape as well as a nod to my Great Great Grandfather.

Internal Intensity - When the intensity builds inside me I must release it onto the canvas. It’s never planned, it’s always an emotional and spontaneous response.

Firstly I was invited to be part of a group exhibition in London, then I was a selected finalist in the Lethbridge Art Prize, I have also been offered another venue to showcase and sell my art - (details on that soon), and I have set up my YouTube Channel where I am hoping to put together some interesting videos of my art life, of course all views, likes and subscribers to my channel/videos are genuinely appreciated.

To be included in the Summer Show 2018 group exhibition at La Galleria, Pall Mall, LONDON was definitely a highlight in my career. To exhibit Internationally has been on my radar and a long term goal of mine that I am so pleased to say I have achieved. I have made some wonderful new connections with many of the other selected artists. The downside was that due to circumstances beyond my control I was unable to attend the preview evening - yes, I know, my first International exhibition and I'm not there.... however, I was kept constantly updated by many of the exhibiting artists through the magic of social media. Please take a look at the video of the preview evening, it was spectacular, even British comedian, Jack Dee was among the guests.
